Geraniums are a favorite of many gardeners and for a good reason. These plants are easy to grow, feature striking blooms throughout the spring and summer, and can even overwinter inside with little care. The Boldly® Coral Geranium or Pelargonium interspecific has bright, bold orange flowers that grow in clusters at the end of tall stems above ruffled foliage. This mounded plant is typically used as a filler in containers or landscape plantings. While it looks incredible when planted solo, it looks equally fantastic when part of a group planting.
Geraniums are heat- and drought-tolerant, allowing them to handle less than ideal circumstances easily. These easy-care plants will be fine if you occasionally forget to water them or if they are left alone while you’re away for a summertime vacation. Landscape plants require very little care, while container-grown Geraniums need some attention, especially during the summer heat. The Boldly® Coral Geranium is a perennial in USDA zones 9, 10, and 11 and an annual in other zones.
Boldly® Coral Geranium Plant Care
Geraniums have average water needs, so water when the top few inches of the soil dries out. If the soil is wet or damp, wait to water as Geraniums do not like wet feet. This plant has part sun to sun requirements, so find a spot that receives 4 to 6 hours of sunlight. Grow Geraniums in loamy or sandy soil amended with organic material. The soil should have a pH between 6.0 and 6.5. Fertilize in spring and continue to feed landscape plants once per month but feed potted Geraniums once every other week.
Limited pruning will keep a Geranium looking good, but routine deadheading is unnecessary to keep the plant blooming. Geraniums may look leggy by midsummer, so cut back overgrowth, and new growth will emerge to create a more compact and bushy plant. This plant can overwinter in zones 9, 10, and 11, but the plant can be cut back and brought inside to overwinter in colder areas. Geraniums do not need a dormant period, and if kept in a warm, sunny spot, will grow throughout the winter while indoors.
Boldly® Coral Geranium Plant Spacing
Plant Geraniums 12 to 20 inches away from other plants. These mounded plants will cover an area 12 to 20 inches wide and grow 10 to 12 inches high. Container-grown Geraniums can be closer together, and a 12-inch pot can accommodate up to 5 plants.
