Geraniums are experiencing somewhat of a comeback, mainly because breeders have boosted their flower size and reduced their fussiness. Boldly Lavender Rose geranium gets 12 inches tall with a 20 inch spread. The flowers are rosy lavender and they last for a long time, even when snipped for use in a vase indoors.
Labeled for part sun (4 to 6 hours) to full sun (6-plus hours), grow Boldly Lavender Rose geranium (Pelargonium) as filler in a container. Slightly more broad than its height, this geranium will have a nice spread in the landscape. It comes in three other colors.
Boldly® Lavender Geranium Care
In a container, use a high quality potting mix, which is specially formulated to encourage good drainage. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. The spent flowers of the Boldly series do not have to be snipped off, but it’s all right if some neatniks feel the need to deadhead. Fertilize according to label directions.
Most geraniums (Pelargonium) can be grown as houseplants. Indoors provide as much sun or bright light as possible and you should get periodic blooms. Avoid overwatering. Or move your pot of geraniums indoors and allow the soil to dry out completely. Take the plant from the pot and rinse off the soil from the roots. Allow to dry out again. To prevent fungus disease, dust the roots with sulfur powder. Store in a brown paper bag in a dry location. The plants will go dormant and likely will survive. Of course, the easiest way to care for the plants over the winter, is to allow the summer geraniums to die and buy new ones next year. New plants will have more vigor and grow more quickly than those wintered over.
Boldly® Lavender Geranium Spacing
Allow for 12 - 20 inches of space between Boldly Lavender Rose Geranium plants. And in a container at least 12 inches of space.
