Color leaps from every angle when the Bombshell Combination hits its stride. Electric pink Superbells Hollywood Star floods each branch with star‑patterned trumpets, sunshine‑yellow Superbells Yellow weaves through the middle, and deep‑plum Supertunia Royal Velvet drapes in plush ribbons below. All three Proven Winners selections bloom without pause from late spring to frost, topping out around ten inches while trailing nearly two feet, so even a modest pot looks like a firework frozen in mid‑burst. Hummingbirds dart in for nectar, butterflies circle the yellow centers, and the saturated palette glows equally well on balconies, patios, and porch rails.
Native to warm South‑American climates, these calibrachoas and petunias shrug off summer heat, resist light drought, and rarely need deadheading. Their shared mounding‑then‑spilling habit makes them a ready‑made thriller‑filler‑spiller mix for hanging baskets, window boxes, or the front of mixed borders. Tuck the Bombshell plants into mass plantings for a carpet of pink, yellow, and royal purple, or let a single basket steal the show against neutral siding or stone.
Bombshell Combination Care
Plant in a 14–16 inch pot filled with well‑drained, peat‑free potting mix amended with slow‑release fertilizer. Give the container at least six hours of sun; morning light plus a bit of afternoon shade keeps colors richest in hot regions. Water thoroughly, then allow the top inch of soil to dry before soaking again—soggy roots invite rot. Feed every other week with a balanced water‑soluble fertilizer and shear the whole planting back by one‑third in midsummer to prompt fresh branching and another wave of color.
Because all components are frost‑tender annuals (hardy only in Zones 10‑11), Bombshell is replanted each spring in most climates. Cuttings of petunia or calibrachoa can be rooted indoors under lights if you wish to carry stock plants through winter, but most gardeners simply enjoy the display all summer and replace it when cold arrives.
Bombshell Combination Spacing
One trio fills a single 14‑inch basket or patio urn; choose an 18‑inch pot if you prefer extra air flow around the crowns. For window boxes, set combinations 20 inches apart so trails mingle by mid‑season without tangling. In landscape beds, space transplants 18 inches on center for a tight, color‑packed groundcover, or wider if you’re mixing with perennials and ornamental grasses. A container of at least two gallons gives the roots room to roam and cuts back on daily watering.
