For some easy-to-care-for annual color, the Bright Lights™ Horizon™ Sunset African Daisy could be just the answer. Not only does it produce an abundance of salmon orange and lavender blue flowers, but it blooms all season long. Growing to around 1 foot tall, this Osteospermum hybrid is ideal for squeezing into a tight spot and providing an injection of color to your garden.
With its origins in Africa, the Bright Lights™ Horizon™ Sunset African Daisy is commonly grown as an annual but can be cultivated as a perennial in warmer parts. Being heat tolerant, it will thrive over the summer and keep flowering until the first frosts. Forming a mounded habit, this African Daisy is perfect for growing in the front of a border, but it works equally well when planted in a container, hanging basket or trough.
Bright Lights™ Horizon™ Sunset African Daisy Care
A huge bonus of the Bright Lights™ Horizon™ Sunset African Daisy is that it does not require any deadheading, as its new blooms simply cover the old ones. African daisies do not tolerate soggy or waterlogged soil so good drainage is a must. Along with being planted in either full sun or partial sun, you can help encourage new blooms all season long by feeding this plant with a slow-release fertilizer in spring, or a liquid feed every 2 to 4 weeks when growing in containers. Pruning is not strictly required, although you can lightly trim your plant to shape for a neat and tidy appearance.
Although commonly planted as an annual, the Bright Lights™ Horizon™ Sunset African Daisy can be grown as a perennial in zones 9 to 11. It is perfect for containers, but will require more frequent watering in a pot than when grown directly in the ground.
Bright Lights™ Horizon™ Sunset African Daisy Spacing
The Bright Lights™ Horizon™ Sunset African Daisy grows to 8 to 12 inches high and 10 to 18 inches wide. For an impressive block of color, you can plant this African daisy out in a group at a spacing of 6 to 10 inches apart.
