Move over daisy and hello Bright Lights™ Red African Daisy Osteospermum hybrid! The vivid red color is what sets this gem apart from the classic daisy. What it lacks in stature, at 12 inches in height, makes up for its continual red, reblooming flowers. The green leaves and prolific flowers create a mounding habit. This is an excellent addition to garden beds and containers from spring till fall.

Native to South Africa, Osteospermum is heat tolerant. It can be incorporated in borders, edging, and used in mass planting throughout the landscape. This African daisy can also be used in a container as a filler. It will add just the right pop of red color to accent any plant combination.

Bright Lights Red African Daisy Care

African daisies typically are more prolific in full sun but can tolerate part shade. Partial shade can decrease bloom production. Old blooms can be trimmed anytime, but there is no need to deadhead. The new flowers shade out the older spent blooms. This plant prefers well-drained acidic soil. It sulks in wet soil conditions, so allow the soil to dry out in between watering. Add fertilizer or compost to garden beds once a year. Apply fertilizer routinely, when growing Bright Lights Red African Daisy in containers for best results.

Bright Lights Red African Daisy is an annual in zones 8 and below. It does not overwinter outdoors and will die after a hard frost.

Bright Lights Red African Daisy Spacing

Plant osteospermum in a 12-inch combination container and allow at least a 6-inch gap between plants. Mass planting is the best technique when incorporating Bright Lights Red African Daisy into the landscape. Allow a 6 to 10 inch spacing between plants.
