Bright Lights Yellow African Daisy is the perfect sun loving annual for cool summer regions. Its bright sunny yellow petals surrounding its buttery yellow centers with burgundy tipped stamens make a wonderful low growing addition to your landscape garden or containers. There are also six more colors in the Bright Lights collection of African Daisies and they pair beautifully together.
Native to Africa, Zones 9a through 11b, it is a tender perennial in hot climates. In Zones 3-9 it is grown as an annual and here it shines the best due to its preference for cool summer climates where it will bloom all season long into the fall. In hot climates it will close up shop mid to late summer when the heat is on, and start flowering again when the temperatures cool.
Bright Lights Yellow African Daisy Care
If you give African Daisies the growing conditions they crave, they will perform for you all season long. A well draining rich soil is preferred with a soil pH of 5.8 to 6.2. It will not tolerate wet feet so proper garden soil is crucial. Fertilize one time for in ground plantings and on a regular regimen of every 3 to 4 weeks for container plants. It is relatively disease and insect resistant when planted properly.
Deadheading is not necessary as they put their spent flowers to bed, quickly covering them with new growth. If you want to, pinching or pruning back will encourage branching which encourages more flowering. Shearing will keep your plants in great shape although it is not required for good growth.
Bright Lights Yellow African Daisy Spacing
Proper plant spacing is important to help the plant retain its disease and insect resistance. Growing up to 12 inches tall and 12 inches wide, this sun loving annual has a compact mounding habit. Space plantings out 6 to 10 inches apart. Pair Bright Lights African Daisy with chartreuse colored sedum, and accent it with warm or cool colored sun loving annuals to provide a wonderful display in your garden bed or container.
