The Carnosa Chelsea Hoya, or Chelsea wax plant as it is commonly known, is a widely grown house plant with attractive foliage that can be left to trail or trained vertically. Producing waxy and pointed leaves and sweetly scented clusters of star-shaped flowers, this Hoya is surprisingly easy to care for. Slow growing, it can reach up to six feet in length over time indoors, but can be pruned for size.
Best Locations For Growing Carnosa Chelsea Hoya
Since the Carnosa Chelsea Hoya is safe to be grown around children and pets, it can be grown anywhere it receives enough light and warmth.
Carnosa Chelsea Hoya Sunlight Requirements
The Carnosa Chelsea Hoya requires bright, but indirect light, as strong harsh sunlight can damage the wonderful foliage for which it is grown. Near an east-facing window is ideal.
Carnosa Chelsea Hoya Care
The Carnosa Chelsea Hoya prefers to be root bound in its pot, so repotting is only needed every 2 to 3 years. Native to Asia, this plant is best grown at a temperature between 65 – 75 °F and kept away from any cold drafts. This Chelsea Hoya can cope with average humidity levels but will happily grow in a more humid bathroom or kitchen as well. If this Hoya grows too large or some leaves begin to die back, the stems can be shortened by cutting just above a leaf node using a pair of clean and sharp scissors.
Watering Carnosa Chelsea Hoya
An almost drought-tolerant plant, this hoya prefers to be on the drier side. In general, a weekly watering will suffice, or when the top inch or two of soil are dry.
Feeding Carnosa Chelsea Hoya
A monthly and diluted feed of a balanced houseplant fertilizer in spring and summer will help encourage strong and lush growth.
