For a productive pepper plant that also looks great, the Cayennetta Hot Pepper Plant is hard to beat. This mildly spicy pepper produces 3-4 inch long chilies that turn a glossy red when mature. It is heavy yielding and with its Scoville rating of 20000, its crop is perfect for using in sauces and salsas. The Cayennetta Hybrid Pepper is easy to grow and does not need staking due to its compact form.

Cayennetta Hot Pepper Plant Care

Being frost tender, peppers should be sown indoors in late winter or early spring and only planted out when all risk of frost has passed. Requiring full sun, the Cayennetta Hybrid Pepper grows best when planted in free-draining and fertile soil. Growing to only two feet high and wide, this hot pepper is ideal for growing in containers.

Growing Cayennetta Hot Pepper Plant

Given the right conditions, the Cayennetta Hybrid Pepper can produce harvestable peppers in as little as 65 to 70 days. Being a sun- and heat-loving edible, it can be grown in a greenhouse or outside in a sunny and sheltered spot, but only once the temperatures have risen in late spring or early summer. If growing this pepper directly in the ground in rows, plants should be spaced 20-24 inches apart.

If grown in a container, select a pot at least 12 inches in diameter to allow it space to grow. Container-grown plants can dry out more quickly than those grown in the ground and require a close eye to prevent the soil drying out.

Watering Cayennetta Hot Pepper Plant

Regular watering is necessary to keep the soil even moist. However, avoid overwatering, which can lead to saturated soil and root rot.

Feeding Cayennetta Hot Pepper Plant

For the best harvests, the Cayennetta Hybrid Pepper should be fed once it starts to develop flowers. A high-potassium fertilizer can be used weekly or as per the manufacturer’s instructions to help encourage prolific fruits throughout the growing season.
