Yellow pinwheels, deep grape punches, and gilded snapdragon‑style blooms meld together in the Chasing Rainbows Combination. This 12‑inch hanging basket recipe never stops producing color from late spring to frost. Two calibrachoas—Superbells Lemon Slice® and Superbells Grape Punch™—cloak the container with cascading ribbons of lemony white and royal‑purple flowers, while Catalina Gilded Grape™ torenia pops upright with buttery throats framed in lilac. Each component rises just 8–10 inches before spilling up to two feet, creating a waterfall perfect for porch hooks, balcony railings, or the front edge of sunny beds. Hummingbirds and butterflies pause for nectar.

All three varieties handle sticky summers, drought once established, and spent blooms without any help—meaning color stays fresh even when you forget the scissors. The mix forms a naturally mounded‑then‑trailing silhouette, so every plant plays the dual role of filler and spiller in baskets, window boxes, or tall urns. Calibrachoa and torenia hail from subtropical regions, giving them built‑in heat tolerance and disease resistance that suits busy gardeners.

Chasing Rainbows Combination Care

Plant in a 12-inch basket or patio pot filled with a lightweight, well‑drained potting mix. Position where the planting receives 5–6 hours of direct sun, with light afternoon shade in very hot zones. Water thoroughly, then allow the top inch of soil to dry; roots resent saturation, so good drainage is critical. Feed every other week with a balanced water‑soluble fertilizer, and give the entire display a light midsummer trim to spark new growth and heavier late‑season color.

The trio grows as annuals outside USDA Zone 9; expect nonstop flowers until a hard freeze. You can overwinter cuttings indoors under bright light, though most gardeners replace the combination each spring to maximize vigor. Plants in the ground finish the season gracefully but do best in raised beds or sandy soil where excess moisture can drain away.

Chasing Rainbows Combination Spacing

For hanging baskets and window boxes, use the full six‑pack (two Lemon Slice, two Grape Punch, two Gilded Grape) in one 12–14 inch container; the mix will knit together quickly without choking itself. In large patio bowls—16 inches or wider—add an extra set if you want instant fullness, or keep to six plants for easier watering. When tucking the recipe into garden beds, space clusters 16–18 inches apart so trails mingle yet still allow air flow around the crowns.
