Everything about the ColorBlaze® Cherry Drop Coleus is unique and eye-catching. The petite leaves have bright red centers, surrounded by burgundy and edged in lime green. The color combination is intense and also brightens up a planting. Most Coleus varieties have an upright growth habit, but this Cherry Drop mounds and trails. Blue-hued flowers bloom in the summer, which can be pinched back to promote foliage growth if desired.
The ColorBlaze® Cherry Drop Coleus is a natural fit in a mixed container or hanging basket due to its trailing stems. Its vigorous growth also makes it a good fit for the front of a mixed bed. The foliage has excellent color retention and is tolerant of hot summer weather. The bold foliage is deer resistant for added convenience in rural and woodland settings.
ColorBlaze® Cherry Drop Coleus Care
Plant the adaptable ColorBlaze® Cherry Drop Coleus in the sun or shade. This plant needs rich, moist soil that promotes drainage. Water when the top layer of the soil is dry. Container plants need water more often than landscape plants, but Coleus does not like soggy conditions. Apply balanced fertilizer every two weeks, especially when grown in a container. A continuous supply of nutrients will support lush foliage growth all growing season.
Pinch back new growth to create a bushier form during the spring and summer. Cut back growth and bring this colorful beauty indoors in the fall to grow as a houseplant. Return the Coleus outdoors when spring arrives.
ColorBlaze® Cherry Drop Coleus Spacing
The ColorBlaze® Cherry Drop Coleus grows 14 to 18 inches tall and trails up to 24 inches. Space plants 12 to 18 inches apart to create a dense ground cover or feature three plants in a 12-inch container.
