Thoroughly saturate the soil when watering to get the roots nice and wet, but only water when the soil is dry. Coleus is prone to root rot, so too much water can be damaging. Select a well-draining soil with a pH of 6.0 to 7.0. Feed the plant using a balanced fertilizer once a month for plants in the ground and every other week for potted plants.
