ColorBlaze® Mini Me™ Chartreuse Coleus (Coleus scutellarioides) delivers a bright, golden-green pop of color that commands attention in borders, containers, or mass plantings. Its compact size, topping out at 12–20 inches high, makes it perfect for smaller garden spaces or tight patio corners. Unlike many other coleus varieties, it boasts narrow leaves and a neat, mounded habit, adding unique texture to mixed plantings. This vigorous annual shines from spring until frost, holding its sunny hue even under challenging conditions.
The chartreuse foliage keeps performing with minimal care and no need for deadheading. Deer typically pass it by, and it tolerates partial to full sun, offering flexible placement in your landscape. This foliage plant rarely produces flowers, so the leaves remain the star of the show. Originating from tropical regions, coleus adapts well as a container plant, accent in foundation plantings, or bold groundcover in sun or shade.
ColorBlaze® Mini Me™ Chartreuse Coleus Care
Plant your coleus in fertile, well-draining soil, maintaining consistent moisture without waterlogging. A balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every week or two keeps new growth coming and leaf color strong. While it tolerates anything from partial to full sun, consider providing midday shade in regions with intense summer heat. Most soil pH levels are acceptable, though slightly acidic to neutral soils typically yield the best results.
Light pinching of tips as they grow helps maintain a tidy form and encourage bushier branching. If occasional flower spikes appear, removing them directs energy back into leaf production, preserving your coleus’s bright chartreuse display. Before frost hits, move containers indoors, though many gardeners treat coleus as an annual. Water sparingly once inside, as the plant will slow its growth in lower light conditions.
ColorBlaze® Mini Me™ Chartreuse Coleus Spacing
When using in a ground cover or mass planting, space individual plants 10 to 16 inches apart, creating a continuous block of cover. In mixed borders, provide at least 18 inches of breathing room so the showy leaves can fully develop. For container culture, select a pot with at least 12 inches in diameter to accommodate the root system and maintain sufficient moisture.
