ColorBlaze® Strawberry Drop Coleus (Solenostemon scutellarioides) are very adaptable and will grow in sun or shade or anything in between. The leaves are green with red venation. They have a burst of red and yellow in their center. ColorBlaze® Strawberry Drop Coleus can be grown as houseplants or outside.
ColorBlaze® Strawberry Drop Coleus are heat tolerant. The brightness of the colors on the foliage is affected by how much sun the plant gets. In the shade, the foliage is not as bright and may get a green tenge. ColorBlaze® Strawberry Drop Coleus work well in the landscape or in containers by themselves or in mixed containers. Because this plant trails outside its container, it is considered a spiller.
ColorBlaze® Strawberry Drop Coleus Care
Indoors, ColorBlaze® Strawberry Drop Coleus needs a warm, bright location with a high humidity. If your house is dry, you can put pebbles in a saucer and place the plant on top of that. Add water until the saucer is full but just below the top of the pebbles. This water will cause the humidity to go up around the plant. Refill the saucer before it dries out.
Outdoors, ColorBlaze® Strawberry Drop Coleus prefers moist, well-drained soil. Work in lots of organic matter before you plant Coleus in the landscape or in a container. In a container, water regularly and use a water-soluble fertilizer every few times you water to keep the foliage bright. ColorBlaze® Strawberry Drop Coleus grows in any light, from shade to full sun. The flowers for this plant are inconspicuous. Pinch them off as soon as you see them to keep the plant looking its best.
ColorBlaze® Strawberry Drop Coleus is native to Southeast Asia and Malaysia. There, it is a tender evergreen perennial. ColorBlaze® Strawberry Drop Coleus are very sensitive to frost. They will die at first frost. If you want to overwinter your plants, bring them in before first frost or their foliage will be damaged. In the spring, harden off your plants before moving them back outside and make sure they are not planted until after the last frost.
ColorBlaze® Strawberry Drop Coleus Spacing
ColorBlaze® Strawberry Drop Coleus is a medium plant, with a height of 14-20 inches and a spread of 18-24 inches. It should be spaced 12-18 inches away from another plant, so they have room to spread out.
