- Full Shade to Full Sun (0 - 6+ Hours Direct Sunlight)
- Mature Height 24-40 Inches
- Mature Width 18-36 Inches
- Use as a Thriller in Containers
Giant. Gorgeous. Showstopper. Still have questions? Torchlight glows in lime, maroon and cranberry red in both sun and shade, and has won 24 awards. Twenty-four. No wall-flower, this coleus grows up to 40 inches tall and 30 inches wide, making it a heat-tolerant stunner for any focal point container or landscape looking for some wow. An extra plus: no deadheading is necessary, so you can sit back and enjoy the airy white flowers.
This Solenostemon scutellarioides hybrid is a great upright accent for larger containers or a standout in a sunny or shade border, in the middle or back, where it could hold its own with ornamental grasses and other tall perennials. Combine this in its container combinations with reds, pinks and white flowered plants like begonias, zinnias, or echinaceas, or dark blue purple salvia or petunias. Before frost douses your Torchlight, you can consider bringing it indoors, where you may have success growing it in a warm bright location with indirect sun and keeping it moderately moist.
ColorBlaze® Torchlight® Coleus Care
A fuss-free addition to sun or shade, Colorblaze Torchlight needs only average water and fertilizer to thrive. In the landscape, it will enjoy controlled-release fertilizer at planting time, and possibly once more in areas with an extended growing season.
Plants in pots or raised beds will do best with controlled-release at planting followed by regular water-soluble fertilizer starting two months after planting according to product directions. If the plant is becoming leggy, or you prefer to remove the flowers, coleus can be pinched back or pruned at any time with scissors or light shears.
ColorBlaze® Torchlight® Coleus Spacing
Though not even the biggest in the Colorblaze series, Torchlight doesn’t hide its light under a bushel. It’s about 40 inches high and 30 inches wide, so a spacing of 18 to 24 inches is recommended. Containers under 22 inches should just use one plant.
