The rounded form, lovely flowers, and laid-back care requirements make Cuphea an excellent plant to add to a landscape. The Colorful Cuphea Collection is a great way to add three stunning specimens at once, including the Cuphea ‘Cherrybells’, Hummingbird’s Lunch 'CUPP1751’, and ‘Starfire Pink'. Narrow, tubular flowers grow in dense clusters and gently nod. Enjoy the flowers from summer until the first heavy frost. Ovate green foliage fills in the stems, giving the plant a full appearance.

The striking flowers attract hummingbirds and other pollinators. Cuphea plants can be featured in mixed beds or borders or added to a walkway or fence line for a burst of color. These adaptable plants are resistant to deer and diseases, allowing them to easily live in conditions that may be challenging for other plants. Grow Cuphea as a perennial in zones 8 through 11. This plant is often found as an annual in other areas.

Colorful Cuphea Collection Care

Plant Cuphea in full sun and in rich, well-drained soil. Overly damp conditions are bad news for these plants, so good drainage is vital. New plants need consistent water, but established plants are drought tolerant. Water during a dry period to support continued growth. Fertilize every few weeks during the growing season to encourage prolific blooming.

Cuphea plants are self-cleaning and do not require deadheading. Prune leggy growth to encourage a bushier form. Cut the growth to ground level in the fall when the plants are grown as annuals. Trim dead growth in later winter or early spring in warm climates where Cuphea grows as a perennial.

Colorful Cuphea Collection Spacing

The plants in the Colorful Cuphea Collection reach 1 to 3 feet tall and wide. Space plants 1 to 3 feet apart to create a continuous planting.
