Bring a little motion to your mix. ColorGrass® Twister stands out with tight, spiraling blades that curl and swoop, adding playful texture. It stays in a neat, upright clump about 12–14 inches tall and wide. It’s especially useful in keeping its form through heat and humidity and providing a strong vertical element. We’ve had our best results using it as a repeat accent in a few matching pots for a modern, architectural vibe.
Juncus effusus spiralis 'Twister' is a rush, not a true grass, and handles consistently wet soil. It’s evergreen in mild winters, but can develop brown tips in colder zones. Set it at the edge of a pond, in a rain garden pocket, or in containers where you tend to water often and want something that won’t slump. The clean green color also looks nice with flowering plants that change through the season, since the twist stays the same.
ColorGrass® Twister Care
Grow ColorGrass® Twister in full sun to partial sun, with some afternoon shade in the hottest sites. Plant it in rich, moisture-holding soil that still drains, and don’t be afraid of low spots that stay damp. A slightly acidic to neutral soil pH is a good target.
Keep the root zone consistently moist, and treat wilting or a “crisp” feel at the tips as your cue to water immediately. In containers, check daily during warm spells because pots dry from the sides first. Feed lightly in late spring and again mid-summer with a balanced fertilizer, especially for potted plants.
In early spring, comb out and snip away any browned or tired stems close to the base to refresh the clump. Skip hard cutbacks during the growing season since new stems emerge steadily from the center. If you grow it as a bright-room houseplant, keep it evenly moist and rotate the pot every week or two so it stays symmetrical.
ColorGrass® Twister Spacing
Space ColorGrass® Twister about 10–12 inches apart so each clump can widen without tangling into the next. For containers, start with a pot around 12 inches wide for one plant, or go wider if you want a mixed planting that stays moist. In pots, pair it with elephant ears for bold leaves and lobelia to spill over the rim while the rush stays upright.
In the landscape, combine ColorGrass® Twister with irises and astilbe in damp soil for bloom and a softer leaf shape against the spirals. Ferns also fit naturally around it in moisture-friendly beds and supply green texture between flowering waves.
