Feature
Concrete Leaf or Titanopsis calcarea is a unique stone-like succulent. It is a mimicry plant that has evolved to resemble the limestone of its natural habitat to evade predators. Concrete plant has a camouflaging rocky pattern of grayish green and blue with little bumps all over. This succulent is native to South Africa and also known as jewel plant. Concrete plant develops shiny, daisy-looking, yellow flowers in the fall and early spring.
Best Locations For Growing Concrete Leaf Succulent
Concrete Leaf will stay small so it can go nearly anywhere in your home or office with adequate light. Place it in a bright spot indoors or in a full-sun to partial-shade location in your garden. Concrete Leaf would be an excellent addition to a rock garden with well-drained, sandy soil. This plant is not toxic for pets or humans.
Concrete Leaf Succulent Sunlight Requirements
Concrete Leaf prefers bright direct light indoors, and outdoors it prefers full sun with a bit of shade during the summer. The foliage color will stay green if it does not receive enough sun.
Concrete Leaf Succulent Care
Concrete Leaf Succulent needs a sandy cactus mix in pots or in the garden. It requires little water and can withstand drought-like conditions. Concrete Leaf is a slow-growing plant and will only reach a maximum of 3” high. This succulent typically does not require any pruning or deadheading.
Watering Concrete Leaf Succulent
Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings. Concrete Leaf requires a moderate watering frequency in the late fall and early spring when flowering. During the rest of the year, Concrete Leaf prefers drier conditions and should be watered every 2 weeks or so.
Feeding Concrete Leaf Succulent
Fertilize in the fall and winter with a cactus fertilizer to encourage flowering.
