Holiday Fraser Fir Tree (Abies fraseri) offers beautiful, silvery-green needles on upward-curving branches with a classic pyramid shape. Its exceptional needle retention and refreshing evergreen scent make it a favorite for Christmas trees, wreaths, and greenery. The strong yet soft-to-the-touch branches can easily display heavier ornaments. Though it typically grows to 30-55 feet in the wild, potted or smaller cut forms are simple to manage indoors through the holiday season.
Selecting a live Fraser Fir helps limit plastic waste while introducing a natural aroma into your home. You can set it up inside for a cheerful centerpiece, then replant in your garden come spring. Its ability to retain moisture longer than many other firs means fewer dropped needles, minimizing indoor cleanup. This eco-conscious choice captures the spirit of the season without generating unnecessary disposal waste.
Holiday Fraser Fir Tree Care
Through winter, keep your Fraser Fir in a moderately cool spot with bright light, watering just enough to keep the soil slightly moist. From January until your local last frost, check its moisture level every week and avoid any heat sources that can dry out the needles prematurely. Do not fertilize the tree until spring when growth picks up.
Once the ground warms and outdoor frosts are done, gradually move the fir outside for a few hours each day so it adapts to changing temperatures. Select a site with full to partial sun and moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Dig a wide hole, position the root ball, and fill in with loose soil before a thorough watering. A layer of mulch helps protect shallow roots, ensuring the Fraser Fir stands tall and healthy for years to come.
