Mature Height

Mature Spread
About the only way to improve the tough annual vinca was to make it trailing. And that’s just what breeders did with Cora Cascade Cherry vinca. Cora Cascade Cherry gracefully drapes from hanging baskets, window boxes and other pots. It’s also striking when planted in the landscape with a mass of cherry red flowers and dark green leaves. It gets 6 to 8 inches tall with up to a 25 inch spread.
Cora Cascade Cherry vinca blooms from spring into fall. This vinca can take the heat and drought. Its leaves droop a little to let you know it’s time to water. Use in a hanging basket or in another container as the spiller. In the landscape, create spots of color mixed in with perennials or around shrubs. Butterflies like to visit this plant.
Cora® Cascade Cherry Vinca Care
The common name for this plant is the same for at least three species and can cause confusion when shopping. The scientific name for this vinca is Catharanthus roseus, which sometimes is called Madagascar periwinkle or just periwinkle. The green and white variegated vinca vine (V. major) is popular in containers because of its trailing habit. Sometimes, the plant is winter hardy, even in part of the Midwest, and will sport a blue flower. Another vinca also called myrtle or periwinkle is V. minor, a popular evergreen ground cover with blue flowers and shiny leaves.
Grow in sunny spaces (6+ hours). Cora Cascade Cherry vinca also tolerates part sun (4 to 6 hours). It’s not too picky about drainage, but it doesn’t like constantly wet soil. Deadheading (snipping off spent flowers) is not necessary because this is a self-cleaning annual. Snip a few stems for a vase for indoor enjoyment.
Cora® Cascade Cherry Vinca Spacing
Use one or two plants in a 10 or 12 inch hanging basket. In a mixed container, allow the cherry red flowers to spill over the edge. Plant about 10 inches apart in the ground.
