It goes by many names, and it has pretty pink flowers with yellow eyes and has many garden uses. Cora Cascade Lavender with Eye Vinca (Catharanthus roseus) will stun in summer containers or the landscape. Vincas, also called periwinkles, can tolerate heat but also grow and flower in part shade. Since the plants are low growers, reaching a height of only about 6 to 8 inches, they also make good annual ground covers or container fillers and spillers.
The flowers of Cora Cascade Lavender are a pinkish-lavender color with tiny yellow centers. They appear on stems of glossy, deep green foliage. The plant attracts butterflies to its blooms, which appear from spring through late summer and even up to the first hard frost. An annual in colder regions, and perennial in only the warmest zones, Cora Cascade Lavender Vinca can fill pots, hanging baskets, and garden beds with pretty light purple color all growing season.
Cora Cascade Lavender Vinca Care
This little vinca is an easy-care addition to containers or garden beds. It gets no serious insect or disease problems, despite growing so close to the ground and in partly shady areas. Place your vinca in soil that is fertile and drains well. Although it needs average watering, the vinca can handle periods of drought, so it can dry out between waterings. This plant also grows fine in heat.
There is no need to deadhead or prune the flowers, but you can shape the plant with a light trim if necessary. Try wintering over your container-grown Cora Cascade by carefully checking and spraying off the plant before the first frost and bringing it indoors. It needs some light, but doesn’t need direct sun from a window.
Cora Cascade Lavender Vinca Spacing
Create a light purple carpet of delicate flowers in a garden bed or container that receives some sun and some shade. Space each vinca plant about 22 to 25 inches apart to allow for its mature size.
