Cora® Cascade Violet Vinca (Catharanthus roseus) blooms from spring to the first hard frost. The large flower is a beautiful violet, as the name suggests. The petals overlap each other on its wide, flat, flowers. The plant is heat-loving and drought tolerant once it is established. It would also make a nice cut flower to bring in during the hot summer when everything else is brown.
The Vinca Cora Cascade Violet is resistant to aerial Phytophthora. However, pay attention to how deep you plant it because the stem doesn’t do well when it is covered in soil. Vinca Cora Cascade Violet looks good in hanging baskets, mixed containers, and in the landscape. In the baskets or containers, it is a spiller. Butterflies love the flowers on this plant.
Cora® Cascade Violet Vinca Care
Place some compost or a slow-release fertilizer down when you plant the Vinca Cora Cascade Violet, and it will grow and bloom all season. Deadheading the spent flowers will keep the plant tidy. This plant needs an average amount of water until it is established. It is drought and heat tolerant, but you will get better flowers if you water it throughout the season. It will grow in part shade but loves the full sun.
A herbaceous perennial, Vinca Cora Cascade Violet likes it hot and humid. That makes it great growing along the Gulf Coast, with the hot humid summers. Vinca Cora Cascade Violet is sensitive to frost so won’t make it through the winter in most areas of the United States.
Cora® Cascade Violet Vinca Spacing
Vinca Cora Cascade Violet is a ground cover, so it is short. The 6-8-inch-tall plant spreads 22-25 inches. If planting in a mixed container, plant this flower in the front so that it can spill over the edge and not take up so much room in the container. If used as a ground cover, plant Vinca Cora Cascade Violet 22-25 inches apart so it can spread out.
