Papyrus is ornamental grass that adds greenery and drama to a space. The tall bright green stalks are topped with clusters of green flowers that bloom during the summer. The unique flowers look like bursts of greenery and give this annual plenty of texture and a monochrome look. Also known as Cyperus papyrus, this plant is grown for its frilly foliage.
This upright thriller is commonly found in containers or landscapes. Papyrus is a fast grower that thrives in damp conditions, making it an excellent plant to include in naturally wet areas or near a water feature. As a native of tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, this plant does well in warm conditions.
Crown of Pharaoh Egyptian Papyrus Care
Papyrus can live in partial to full sun. Soil should be wet and retain moisture. This plant needs constant dampness and should never dry out. It is good to use a pot without drainage to hold in the water and keep this thirsty plant hydrated when grown in a container. Apply a balanced fertilizer in the spring to support new growth.
The Crown of Pharaoh Egyptian Papyrus can be brought indoors to overwinter. Place in a very sunny spot and stick to a regular watering schedule. Papyrus can handle cooler conditions when dormant.
Crown of Pharaoh Egyptian Papyrus Spacing
The Crown of Pharaoh Egyptian Papyrus is a tall plant that reaches 24 to 36 inches. Mature plants spread out 12 to 16 inches. Create a full, dense planting by spacing Papyrus 12 to 16 inches apart center to center. Plant one or two Papyrus in a 10- to 12-inch container.
