Cylindrical Snake Plant, African Spear Plant, or Sansevieria Spear Plant are all common names of the Sansevieria cylindrica. This succulent plant is great for beginners because it will tolerate neglect and grow in just about any indoor space, no matter the light levels or humidity. The slow-growing, upright leaves have subtle markings horizontally, which give the plant a contemporary and minimalist look.
Best Locations For Growing Cylindrical Snake Plant
Any room in the house is perfect for Snake Plant. Humidity does not need to be high, and the light levels can vary. Make sure to keep this plant out of drafts and away from air conditioner vents. Succulents prefer an inside temperature above 68 degrees F at all times. Cylindrical Snake Plant is toxic and should be grown out of the reach of children and pets.
Cylindrical Snake Plant Sunlight Requirements
Snake Plant famously can be grown in the lowest light available, which makes them suitable for growing in apartments or dorms where light levels may be less than ideal for any other houseplant. Cylindrical Snake Plant makes a great patio or deck plant during the summer and needs protection from full sun from midday on. Full sun outdoors will bleach and burn the leaves.
Cylindrical Snake Plant Care
Use potting soil that is peat free and free draining to plant Snake Plant. Adding perlite and sharp sand to indoor potting soil is ideal. Cylindrical Snake Plant does not mind being mildly pot-bound and does not require repotting more than every 3-4 years. The vertical leaves can become top heavy over time. Make sure to pot this plant in a heavy container that will not tip over. Propagating Snake Plant is easily done from leaf cuttings or offshoots that will form once the plant matures. Pruning off dead or dying leaves can be done at any time and is the only required maintenance.
Watering Cylindrical Snake Plant
Snake Plant is a succulent that needs to dry out completely in between waterings. The fleshy leaves hold moisture and help this plant to tolerate drought. Water Cylindrica more frequently during active growth than during the winter when Snake Plant slows down. Water every one to two weeks during the summer, and leave Snake Plant to dry for a month or more during the winter.
Feeding Cylindrical Snake Plant
Fertilizing is not generally required. Snake Plant will happily survive on lean, well-draining soil year-round.
