Featuring big, bicolor blossoms and emerald-toothed foliage, Dalaya® Fireball Dahlia adds long-lasting color to beds and borders from late spring until fall’s first frost. Blood-orange flat petals surround a bushy, bright-yellow center. This anemone dahlia, also known as Dahlia hybrida ‘Baldenire’, is easy to grow and low maintenance. Cold hardy in zones 9 to 11, this ornamental loves sunshine and heat. With its compact size, it’s an ideal option for containers.
Growing upright, this Mexican original works hard all summer to provide pristine flowers. It offers three full seasons of interest, whether planted in a container or garden bed for extra color. It is disease and deer resistant for stress-free growing. Use it to add focal interest to landscapes, patios, porches, and decks, or cut several of its flower stems to bring a little sunshine indoors.
Dalaya® Fireball Dahlia Care
To ensure Dalaya® Fireball Dahlia produces as many blooms as possible, plant it in full sun. It prefers rich, moist, well-drained soil with a pH of 6.5 to 7.0. To improve the soil’s nutrient content, add compost or cow manure. Dahlias require moderate amounts of water; an inch or so per week should suffice. During the blooming season, fertilize biweekly with a low-nitrogen formula, such as a 5-10-10 (N-P-K).
Dalaya® Fireball Dahlia does not typically require frequent pruning other than trimming dead foliage and flowers. Deadheading throughout the flowering season will encourage the plant to produce more blossoms.
Dalaya® Fireball Dahlia is well suited for growing in containers. Select a pot with at least a 2.5 quart capacity. Fill the pot with an all-purpose potting mix and add extra perlite for drainage.
Dalaya® Fireball Dahlia Spacing
Space dahlia plants 12 to 14 inches apart. Plant Dalaya® Fireball Dahlia in borders, beds, and containers. Since this dahlia variety attracts butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees, plant it in a pollinator garden with salvia, bee balm, cosmos, and coneflower. Trim blossoms to make a fireball bouquet to brighten your kitchen or entryway.
