- Easy to care for super bloomer!
It’s new, easy to care for, and a super bloomer. Double Up Pink Begonia (Begonia semperflorens) is a new release from Proven Winners that packs a pink punch of flowers above dark leaves. Use this pretty annual to add color to garden beds or containers in part sun or shade. You’ll enjoy its lush pink blooms continuously from spring planting through summer and up to the first frost, without having to prune or deadhead the plants.
Double Up Pink Begonia can handle sun or shade and heat. The plant needs average water, but little attention to keep blooming. With its contrasting pink blooms on bronze-like foliage, you can plant a row of the upright, slightly rounded begonias as a border or as an edge in a garden bed, especially one that gets sun on some parts and shade on the others. The plant can grow to 18 inches high. Use it in containers as a colorful filler.
Double Up Pink Begonia Care
This easy-care annual is known as a wax begonia that loves hot summer days and can withstand occasional drought. Still, average watering is best, especially for these begonias in pots. And that’s all gardeners need to do; the blooms take care of themselves from planting time until frost. There is no need to prune or remove spent flowers; Double Up Pink Begonia does the work for you.
Although this begonia likes heat and can handle some sun, it is best if not left in full afternoon sun in warm growing zones. Otherwise, place the plant in any garden bed that gets morning and mid-day sun or some combination of sun and shade. To ensure they continue to burst forth with double blooms, feed the plants regularly with a balanced fertilizer. They should thrive until cool fall temperatures set in.
Double Up Pink Begonia Spacing
Space Double Up Pink Begonias about 8 to 14 inches apart, depending on the effect you desire. This gives them plenty of room to grow, but not to overlap. In containers, plant the begonias around the edges to fill in bright pink color around taller plants.
