Dreamtime Jumbo Yellow Strawflower (Bracteantha bracteatum ‘OHB003790’) introduces golden blooms with a unique paper-like texture that last from spring through autumn. At a compact 10 to 12 inches tall and wide, its brilliant yellow flowers light up any garden or patio, making this plant an excellent choice for adding quick pops of color. Unlike many other annuals, it stands up to heat and recovers quickly after watering, so you can rely on consistent displays of fresh petals. Its mounding habit also provides a neat, controlled appearance that works perfectly in borders or mixed containers.

This strawflower is admired for its toughness and versatility, requiring only moderate watering and performing well in full sun conditions. It delivers a long flowering window while tolerating cooler temperatures, making it suitable for early spring plantings. Children and adults alike enjoy its papery petals, which can be used for crafts or long-lasting cut flower arrangements. Deer and rabbits generally avoid it, reducing the risk of damage in more rural or woodland settings. Consider using it in large group plantings, hanging baskets, or as a dependable filler in container combinations.

Dreamtime Jumbo Yellow Strawflower Care

Plant in a location that receives at least six hours of sunlight each day, placing it in well-drained soil. Water thoroughly during the first few weeks to establish the roots, then scale back to a moderate schedule once it’s settled. A balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every other week can support ongoing blooms from spring until fall. If your soil is high in organic matter, additional fertilizing may be minimal. Avoid waterlogged conditions, as this plant prefers slightly dry to average moisture levels. In colder regions, treat it as an annual or move containers indoors before freezing temperatures arrive.

Trim off spent flower heads or use light shearing to encourage fresh growth and extended flowering. Rejuvenating by cutting back lightly in mid-season can maintain a tidy shape and spur new buds. If planting in containers, watch the watering more closely, as pots dry out faster. In milder climates, it may overwinter outdoors, returning in spring for another round of color.

Dreamtime Jumbo Yellow Strawflower Spacing

For bed or mass plantings, place each strawflower 10 to 16 inches apart to allow enough room for mounded growth. If creating a border or single-row display, maintain about 12 inches between plants to prevent overcrowding. When using containers, select a pot at least 10 inches in diameter to accommodate the root system, and increase the planter size when combining with other sun-loving plants.
