Plants Included In East Coast Swing Annual Combination
‘Nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina in the morning’, as the song goes...it personifies this terrific combination to a “T”. Picture it, cool morning ocean breezes waft through your hair as you sit on the back porch swing, the squeak of the springs and the rhythm of the swing wakes you up and you look up to see your hanging basket filled with chocolate, lime green and coral colors, swaying in the breeze. That’s the tropics calling!
The cool lime green foliage of the sedum tames down the intense deep chocolate burgundy color of the coleus and complements the warm colors of the impatiens beautifully in this inspired combination of annuals. You are going to want to make room for this hanging basket arrangement on your bright light but shaded porch. While you are at it, buy three or four of these combinations and hang them along your back porch, which by the way would look awesome with a ‘haint blue’ ceiling to bring you full circle to your East Coast vacation in the summer's past.
East Coast Swing Annual Combination Care
Although sedum and coleus prefer full sun to light shade, impatiens are a shade loving plant so properly locating your hanging basket is going to determine how it thrives for you. Once you have the perfect bright light but shade location, plant them in good quality potting soil for best performance. Although sedum and coleus do not require you to jump through hoops to fertilize them throughout the season, impatiens will appreciate the application of a half strength water soluble fertilizer every few weeks. All three annuals are tolerant of some light drought conditions and will thrive with an adequate watering schedule as planters dry out.
Plan on using a 12 inch container or hanging basket for the 4 ¼ inch pot size plants. These vigorous plants will quickly fill the container and spill over, but if you are concerned about the size, purchase the larger pot size plants and up the size of your container or hanging basket accordingly. These are vigorous growers and you will not be disappointed in the end result once you have given them what they need to perform for you.
East Coast Swing Annual Combination Ideas
If you have a lightly shaded location in your garden bed, you will be equally successful in planting this trio in your landscape. Remember, providing proper light requirements, good well draining soil, fertilizing when needed and having a regular watering schedule when dry makes the perfect recipe for success in your garden.
This is absolutely the best hanger that I have ever had in the shady area of my home.

The lemon coral took a back space but the beauty of coral reef and the chocolate drop more than made up for it. Looking forward to getting another this year.
