The Easy Pick Green Zucchini Plant is aptly named as it is a spineless variety with an open habit, which makes harvesting as painless as possible. It produces dark-green, smooth fruits up to 6-8 inches long that store well and can be used in many culinary ways. If harvested regularly, this plant will continue cropping all season long. With its open habit, the fruits are easy to spot, making any hidden zukes less likely.
Easy Pick Green Zucchini Care
Being tender, zucchini plants can be damaged by low temperatures and should not be planted out until all risk of frost has passed and the temperatures are above 60 °F. Requiring at least 6 to 8 hours of sunlight a day, these edibles prefer a south-facing and sheltered spot. As a hungry plant, the Easy Pick Green Zucchini likes to be grown in fertile soil that is free draining. To help prevent mildew, plants should be spaced at least 4 feet apart.
Growing Easy Pick Green Zucchini
You don’t have to wait long for the delicious fruits to start appearing, which can be in as little as 32 – 40 days. Zucchini plants need ample space and this Easy Pick Green Zucchini is no exception as it can grow to 4-5 feet tall by 4-5 feet wide. As they require full sun, zucchini plants are best grown outside in the sunniest spot you can give them.
Smaller zucchini plants can grow well when planted in a large container. However, due to its size, this cultivar would be best situated directly in the ground or in a large raised bed.
Watering Easy Pick Green Zucchini
Zucchini plants thrive when grown in a soil that is kept consistently moist and not allowed to dry out. Slow and deep watering to the base of the plant is recommended to avoid getting the foliage wet.
Feeding Easy Pick Green Zucchini
Zucchini plants adore lots of organic matter, and enriching the soil before planting will help encourage high yields. Once the flowers begin to form, feeding with a balanced liquid fertilizer will help encourage consistent fruiting until the end of the season.
