Elizabeth English Shrub Rose is impossible to ignore with its masses of apple-blossom pink rosettes with a powerful Old Rose fragrance. The large, many-petaled blooms open soft pink with a warm golden glow, then fade to the palest blush for a layered effect on the same shrub. The scent is strong and sweet with a bright lemon sherbet note that carries on warm air. Growing about 4½ feet tall and wide, Rosa ‘Ausmajesty’ forms a rounded, commanding plant with impressive vigor and health.
Named in honor of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, this 2022 introduction was bred to embody poise and endurance. It flowers in generous clusters from late spring through frost, keeping the shrub full rather than sparse between flushes. Foliage stays rich green and frames the soft pink blooms beautifully. The balanced, upright habit makes it adaptable for hedging, mixed beds, or a large patio container. Plant one rose to anchor a border and it will perfume the entire space.
Elizabeth English Shrub Rose Care
Plant in a location that receives at least five to six hours of direct sun, ideally with morning light to dry foliage early in the day. Prepare a deep planting area with well-drained garden soil enriched with organic matter. Elizabeth prefers a slightly acidic pH around 5.5–6.5. Water thoroughly after planting and maintain consistent moisture during active growth, adjusting during extended heat. Feed in early spring as buds begin to swell and again after the first bloom cycle to support repeat flowering.
Prune in late winter as new shoots begin to show, removing weak or crossing canes and shaping for an open framework. During the growing season, trim spent clusters back to encourage quicker rebloom and maintain symmetry. Collect fallen leaves in autumn to promote a clean start the following year. In colder regions, apply a protective mulch layer after the ground cools to shield the crown from freeze-thaw cycles.
Elizabeth English Shrub Rose Spacing
Allow 3½–4 feet between plants for a flowering hedge, or give 7 feet or more if planting as standalone specimens. Choose a container at least 22 inches wide with strong drainage if growing on a patio. Pair with tall foxglove for vertical accent, soften edges with hardy geranium at the base, or add garden phlox nearby to echo the blush tones and attract pollinators.
