Enchanted Forest® River Run™ Pieris brings pearl-like spring blooms to the places many shrubs avoid: bright shade and dappled light. Its graceful racemes of white bells open in late winter to early spring, standing out against polished evergreen foliage.

Compact and tidy, River Run™ lends structure to woodland borders, foundations, and entryway pots. Fresh flushes of new growth keep the show going after bloom, while the shrub’s refined form fits easily into small gardens.

Enchanted Forest® River Run™ Pieris Care

Provide partial shade with 3–5 hours of gentle morning sun or bright, dappled light. Plant in acidic, well-drained soil with a target pH of 4.5–6.0; amend with pine bark and leaf mold to improve drainage and acidity. Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil are dry, keeping moisture even during summer heat and the first growing season. Mulch 2–3 inches deep with shredded bark or pine needles, keeping mulch a few inches from the stems.

Feed in early spring with a granular fertilizer formulated for acid-loving plants; a light follow-up after bloom can support new growth. Prune immediately after flowering to remove spent clusters and shape lightly. Hardy in Zones 6–8; shelter from drying winter winds and avoid alkaline soils that can cause chlorosis. For containers, use an acid-loving potting mix with excellent drainage and avoid waterlogged saucers.

Enchanted Forest® River Run™ Pieris Spacing

For a single specimen, allow 3–4 feet of space in all directions. For a low hedge or mass planting, set 30–36 inches on center. Keep 18–24 inches from walls, paths, and steps for airflow and natural spread.

In containers, start with a 14–18 inch diameter pot (5–7 gallons) with large drainage holes, upsizing to a 16–20 inch container as the plant matures. Place patio containers in bright shade near an east- or north-facing exposure.

Why Grow Enchanted Forest® River Run™ Pieris?

  • Early-season bloom that lights up the garden before most shrubs leaf out

  • Evergreen foliage that keeps beds looking finished year-round

  • Compact, low-maintenance habit ideal for small spaces and containers

  • Thrives in acidic, well-drained soil and partial shade where other plants struggle

  • Naturally deer resistant in many regions and generally undemanding when sited correctly

All parts are toxic if eaten, so plant it where pets or livestock won’t nibble. If your shrub is grafted, remove any shoots that sprout below the graft to keep the named River Run™ variety true.

Bring home Enchanted Forest® River Run™ Pieris to illuminate shade with pearly spring blooms and crisp, evergreen structure. This refined, space-savvy shrub turns tricky low-light spots into polished focal points.
