Eustacia Vye Rose, named after the beautiful woman Thomas Hardy created in his classic novel, “A Return of the Native”, features lush clusters of showy, crepe-pink blooms with faded coral centers. Ninety curved petals make up each floret, accompanied by emerald green foliage and unique stems that have a reddish cast. This David Austin English shrub rose flowers repeatedly from spring through fall. Producing flowers and foliage highly desired by florists, this perennial’s beauty can be enjoyed inside or out. Also known as Rosa ‘Eustacia Vye’, (Ausegdon) English Shrub Rose Bred By David Austin PAT. PP3298, Rosa 'Ausegdon', and syn. Rosa 'Sts Francis And Claire’, this ornamental captivates pollinators including bees. Growing to a maximum height of 4 to 5 feet and spread of 2 to 3 feet, Eustacia Vye Rose adds color, height, and texture to any place this charming beauty rests.
Created in the United Kingdom, this compact perennial grows upright and bushy and is highly disease resistant. Its fine, fruity perfume will delight your olfactory senses continuously from spring through fall. Deer may unfortunately find these blossoms equally pleasing, so adding deer-resistant plants is strongly recommended. Coreopsis, bleeding heart, foxglove, marigold, and lavender are superb examples of deer-resistant plants to add alongside this ornamental to keep her safe.
Eustacia Vye Rose Care
This beauty thrives in full sun. An east-facing location with loamy, slightly acidic, well-draining soil is ideal. If your soil lacks nutrients or has a higher pH, you can amend it with peat moss or coco coir. Depending on the root ball’s size, plant Eustacia Vye Rose in a hole that’s about 1.5 feet x 2 feet. Add a 1-to 2-inch layer of mulch to prevent water loss. Give this moisture-loving perennial 1 to 2 inches of water per week. Apply a rose-specific fertilizer to inspire bigger and better blooms throughout the season.
To encourage flowering and discourage disease, trim damaged, diseased, and/or dead canes during late winter/early spring. Then, cut back the healthy stems by a third. Also, remove spent flowers throughout the season to encourage reblooming.
Eustacia Vye Rose Spacing
Eustacia Vye Rose will beautify borders, beds, hedges, and containers. Provide 4 feet of space for specimen planting and 2 feet when planting en masse. If growing in a container, choose one that is at least 2 feet deep and a foot wide, Arrange this cut flower’s gorgeous pink blossoms alone or with alliums, baby’s breath, clematis, Gerber daisies, hydrangea, lilies, and peonies to form lovely bouquets.
