Evolution Emerald Ice Sedum keeps its shape, and that’s the whole point. Evolution Emerald Ice Sedum forms a dense, short-stemmed mound of succulent green foliage that doesn’t flop open when it hits summer growth. Also known as Sedum 'TNSEDEEI', it finishes with a thick layer of dark pink flowers that sits on top of the foliage instead of hovering on weak stems. We recommend using it for late-season color and a tidy profile in waterwise borders.

This hardy perennial for Zones 4–9 thrives in lean, sharp-draining soils and stays compact around 14–15 inches tall and wide. The foliage looks clean all season, and the flower heads turn into showy seed clusters that retain some interest after bloom. Use it as a front-of-bed edging plant, a gravel-garden anchor, or a living border by repeating the mounded form in drifts. It also works well in containers as a filler that won’t outgrow the pot midseason.

Evolution Emerald Ice Sedum Care

Give Evolution Emerald Ice Sedum full sun for the tightest habit and strongest flowering, with light shade only in very hot climates. Plant in average to very lean, well-drained soil, and avoid rich, heavily amended beds that stay damp. A neutral to slightly acidic soil pH is fine.

Water regularly during the first growing season so roots spread into surrounding soil. After that, let the soil dry between waterings, since sedums struggle in consistently wet conditions. Fertilize sparingly, because too much feed can soften growth and reduce the dense look.

Remove any damaged leaves as needed during the season. After flowering, you can leave the seed heads for texture or clip them off when they fade, depending on the look you want. In winter, the plant goes dormant, and new growth returns from the base in spring.

Evolution Emerald Ice Sedum Spacing

Space plants 12 to 15 inches apart for a groundcover effect, or plant a bit closer if you’re filling a new bed fast. For containers, a 12–16 inch pot gives it room to mound without crowding other plants.

In the ground, pair this sedum with tickseed and asters for a long color sequence that picks up right as the sedum starts blooming, and tuck in hens & chicks nearby where the soil stays driest. In containers, combine it with petunias for trailing color around the rim and add zinnia in a separate pot close by to keep the late-summer palette lively without competing for root space.
