Add some color to your home with the pink-flowering Exotica Begonia. Its showy foliage also wows, with large metallic-looking leaves that don bright-pink variegation. Also known as Exotica, Edinburgh and Shrub Begonia, this New Guinea native plant will bring a splash of the jungle to your home. This plant is easy to grow as long as you provide it with some warmth and humidity.

Best Locations For Growing Exotica Begonia

This plant looks great in a living room or bedroom. Just make sure to keep it away from pets, as all species of begonia are toxic to them.

Exotica Begonia Sunlight Requirements

The Exotica Begonia needs bright indirect light to thrive, so plan on placing it in an area that gets bright dappled or filtered sunlight. Bright morning light is ideal. Try an east-facing window or a few feet from a south-facing window.

Exotica Begonia Care

The Exotica Begonia is a tropical plant and needs plenty of humidity to thrive. If your home is on the drier side, you can place it near a humidifier or place a tray of wet pebbles next to the plant. You’ll also want to make sure your home stays warm enough for your Exotica Begonia to thrive. This plant prefers temperatures between 60-85 degrees Fahrenheit.

Watering Exotica Begonia

Allow your Exotica Begonia to get fairly dry between waterings, as this plant doesn’t like to sit in soggy soil. Water only when the soil is dry to at least two knuckles deep. Timing will vary, but once a week should do the job for most homes. During the winter, it may only need watering once a month.

Feeding Exotica Begonia

Fertilize your Exotica Begonia with 20-20-20 fertilizer diluted to half strength every two waterings. You can also use organic fertilizers like vermiculite or fish emulsion. Stop fertilizing in the winter and resume in the spring.
