Use a 12-inch or larger container filled with a peat-based potting mix, then situate it in at least six hours of direct sun. Water deeply when the top inch of soil feels dry, which may mean daily irrigation during extreme heat; allow excess to drain freely. Beginning two weeks after planting, apply a balanced water-soluble fertilizer every 10–14 days to support the heavy bloom load. If plants look leggy in midsummer, shear back by one-third and follow with fertilizer to trigger fresh growth and buds within ten days.

Though perennial in frost-free zones 10–11, Supertunia selections behave as long-blooming annuals elsewhere; expect nonstop flowers until temperatures dip below 32 °F. Gardeners who wish to carry favorites through winter can root tip cuttings in early autumn and grow them under bright indoor light, restarting the combination outdoors the following spring.

Far and Away Combination Spacing

For the recipe’s classic flow, center one Vista Bubblegum and tuck two Vista Paradise and two Vista Snowdrift starts evenly around it, in a 12- to 14-inch basket or bowl. Use larger patio planters (16–18 inches) to allow extra space between each plant. In sunny beds, set individual transplants 18 inches apart; within four weeks the mounds merge into a seamless floral carpet that reaches three feet across by late summer.
