- Low Maintenance, Variegated Foliage, Air Purifier
- Bright Indirect Light
- Mature Height 6 feet
- Water Needs - When Half Of The Soil Is Dry
The Ficus Moonshine is hard to find but worth the effort due to its unique, mottled foliage. Also known as Ficus shivereana, this plant has a tree-like form with a central stalk. While it is a slow grower, an indoor can reach up to six feet high. The broad leaves are predominantly light green, with splashes of dark green randomly scattered throughout. The bold variegation makes this plant truly special.
Best Locations For Growing Ficus Moonshine
This Ficus hybrid is adaptable but thrives in bright, indirect sunlight and above-average humidity. Rooms with increased humidity, such as bathrooms and kitchens, are ideal locations, but this plant can also do well in a living room, bedroom, or office. Keep the plant away from exterior doors, which can create drafts. Be aware that Ficus shivereana is toxic to pets if ingested, so reconsider bringing this plant into your home if you have curious pets.
Ficus Moonshine Sunlight Requirements
The light green foliage inspires the name "Moonshine," but this plant is all about sunlight. The Ficus Moonshine can live in medium to bright, indirect sunlight. While it can add some greenery to a location with medium sunlight, it will flourish in a spot with bright, indirect light and develop more intense variegation. Direct sunlight can damage the leaves.
Ficus Moonshine Care
Prune the Ficus Moonshine during the spring and summer to maintain its size or control its shape as needed. Repot this Ficus each year or as necessary, selecting a pot that is one to two inches larger. Use lightweight potting soil that promotes good drainage.
Watering Ficus Moonshine
The Ficus Moonshine has medium water needs. Water this houseplant when the top few inches of potting soil are dry. While the soil at the bottom of the container can remain damp, the top layer must be dry before watering. Root rot can be a serious issue, so be sure to remove any standing water from the tray or cover pot. The Ficus Moonshine thrives in above-average humidity, but average humidity is also acceptable.
Feeding Ficus Moonshine
Feed the Ficus Moonshine every four weeks during the spring and summer. Regular feedings encourage new growth and keep the plant healthy. Use a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer, and refrain from fertilizing when growth slows in the fall and winter.

Plant Shipping
Below are some factors we consider when determining when to ship the plants depending on the timing of the order.
Winter to Early Spring
We ship only when it's warm enough to plant in your growing zone.
Sometimes plants aren't completely ready to sell and ship in early spring. We will wait until the plants are ready before shipping so you don't get a subpar product.
For Southern plants we will be able to ship much earlier than plants coming from our northern nursery.
Summer
If there is extreme heat we may delay shipping for a week or several weeks.
We review what areas the plants are traveling through as well as your location.
Fall into Winter
We’ll ship plants out all the way up to the end of the fall planting season!
