The lacy, multicolored foliage of Fishnet Stockings Coleus plays a role that’s as dramatic as it is supportive in combination plantings. The shades of chartreuse, burgundy, green, and purple set an enticing scene in shaded containers and landscapes. The striking variegation leaves an impression but doesn’t overpower its neighbors. Plus, this award-winning variety is heat tolerant, deer-resistant and adaptable as a houseplant.
Fishnet Stockings Coleus grows up to three feet high and has a regal upright habit that acts as a “thriller” plant in combination containers. They look just as beautiful next to colorful blooms as they do on their own. Coleus likes the shade, so be sure to reserve a special spot in your shady garden or patio nook for this impressive foliage plant.
Fishnet Stockings Coleus Care
Gardeners tend to agree that their Coleus looks best before they bloom, so pinching off any flowers as they appear has good results. Fertilize with well-balanced fertilizer to keep it growing happily in containers. Water when the top inch of soil is dry.
Coleus can be overwintered indoors as a houseplant. When turning your outdoor Coleus into an indoor Coleus, choose the healthiest plant and bring it indoors before the first frost. If necessary, treat for disease or insects before bringing it inside for the winter. Place in a bright area and add humidity with a pebble mat or daily mists from a spray bottle. Take care not to overwater your Coleus. Fertilize in spring and reintroduce it to the outdoors slowly in the early summer.
Fishnet Stockings Coleus Spacing
Fishnet Stockings Coleus tends to grow higher than they are wide. They can reach three feet tall at maturity, but they only need 12-16” of space in the garden. They can be planted closer together in containers, at 8-12” apart.
