The Freedom Combination splashes true‑red petunia and snowy white verbena blooms, then lifts cascading spires of indigo Angelface® Cascade Blue for that grand‑finale finish. Flowers are continuous from late spring until frost, each variety self‑cleaning so the color parade never stalls. Mounded‐to‐trailing Really Red Supertunia® and Superbena® Whiteout™ spill up to three feet, while the arching angelonia tops out around fourteen inches—perfect scale for patio urns, window boxes, hanging baskets, or a sun‑drenched border edge. Butterflies zoom in for nectar, hummingbirds hover, and garden guests instantly read the red‑white‑and‑blue theme.
Fast growth, strong branching, and impressive heat tolerance make this trio a low‑effort showpiece. All three components handle short dry spells, shrug off deer, and keep powdery mildew at bay. Use the petunias and verbena as spillers in large mixed planters, weave them through mass plantings as groundcover, or tuck angelonia toward the center of a bed for upright interest and a light grape‑soda fragrance. Wherever you need a patriotic punch—parade routes, porch steps, public entrances—the Freedom Combination delivers.
Freedom Combination Care
Set transplants into a 12‑ to 14‑inch container filled with a high‑quality, well‑draining potting mix amended with compost. Place where the arrangement receives six or more hours of direct sunlight; four hours plus bright shade is acceptable in hotter zones. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry, letting excess moisture drain; soggy roots stunt petunias and verbena. Feed every two weeks with a balanced liquid fertilizer to maintain nonstop color and vigorous growth.
Treat these Proven Winners® annuals as seasonal color in zones 9 and colder; they bloom heavily for one long season and are typically replaced the next spring. Overwinter the planter in a bright, frost‑free location or root cuttings to carry forward into the next year. Outdoors, blooms persist until a killing frost, and plants maintain good form with only an occasional midsummer trim to refresh the shape.
Freedom Combination Spacing
One kit fills a 12‑inch hanging basket or patio bowl—alternate the angelonias, petunias and verbenas evenly around the rim for a balanced skirt of red, white, and blue. For a rectangular window box, repeat the recipe every 18 inches. In garden beds, allow two feet between kits; the trailing partners will knit into a colorful carpet while the angelonia dots the swath with blue. Use at least eight inches of soil depth to give the roots room to run and the display room to shine.
