Frizzle Sizzle Yellow Ruffled Pansy (Viola x wittrockiana) showcases bold golden petals adorned with a deep burgundy blotch. The petals curl slightly around the edges, creating a ruffled, textured appearance that draws attention throughout the season. Its compact, mounded form keeps a tidy look in both beds and containers from early spring to late autumn. We've observed the ruffling becomes especially pronounced in cooler temperatures, adding a touch of old-fashioned charm.

Despite its delicate appearance, this pansy is noted for frost tolerance and minimal watering requirements once established. Deer usually pass it over, making it a reliable choice for gardens near wooded areas. It shines in hanging baskets or as an accent in window boxes, but it also thrives in mass plantings or as a border plant. Originally bred for cool conditions, it retains a long blooming period that brightens up transitional seasons.

Frizzle Sizzle Yellow Ruffled Pansy Care

Provide well-draining soil with moderate nutrient levels, and maintain slightly moist conditions without allowing the roots to sit in water. Place the plant where it can receive partial to full sun, ideally at least four hours of direct light a day. A balanced, water-soluble fertilizer applied every two weeks helps promote steady growth and repeated color. Cooler weather tends to deepen the burgundy flare and enhance the ruffled edges.

Prune spent flowers after they fade, which encourages continuous buds to form. If grown in containers, ensure adequate drainage and check soil moisture regularly, particularly during warmer spells. In regions with cold winters, protect the plant by mulching the root zone or relocating potted specimens to a sheltered spot. Light trimming in late autumn can tidy up leggy growth, but avoid cutting back too aggressively until the main bloom period ends.

Frizzle Sizzle Yellow Ruffled Pansy Spacing

Set individual plants about 8 inches apart when forming rows or arranging a bed. A slightly tighter configuration produces a fuller effect but requires a bit more attention to watering and feeding. For potted arrangements, a container of at least 8-10 inches in diameter allows room for root development.
