The Frost Peperomia or Peperomia griseo argentea as it is botanically named, is an easy to care for perennial, grown for its stunning foliage. Producing almost heart-shaped leaves in shades of silver and green on thick stems, this peperomia is a semi-succulent that stores some moisture in its foliage. Originating from the tropics of South America, the Frost Peperomia will add a little touch of jungle to wherever it is grown.
Best Locations For Growing Frost Peperomia
Being a compact and non-toxic house plant, the Frost Peperomia is perfect for growing in any room, but is especially suited to placement on a desk or table.
Frost Peperomia Sunlight Requirements
The Frost Peperomia prefers bright, but indirect light. Avoid placing this plant where it will receive strong direct sunlight, which can damage the foliage. Near an east-facing window can be ideal.
Frost Peperomia Care
Native to the tropics, it is no surprise that the Frost Peperomia likes to be kept at 65 to 75 °F. Preferring moderate humidity levels, if grown in a dry environment this plant may benefit from misting or being placed on a tray of wet pebbles. Pruning is not required, although old leaves can be removed as necessary by cutting away at the base of the stem.
Watering Frost Peperomia
Being a semi-succulent, the Frost Peperomia is sensitive to overwatering. Hence, it is advisable to only water this plant when the top two inches of soil are dry. During the growing season, a weekly watering will usually suffice, but don’t let this peperomia completely dry out in between waterings. In winter, watering can be reduced.
Feeding Frost Peperomia
Although not strictly necessary, the Frost Peperomia can be fed monthly during the summer months using a balanced houseplant fertilizer diluted to half strength.
