Funky® Pink (Begonia x hybrid) is simply gorgeous and boy is it pretty in pink! Flamingo pink double blooming flowers will lure the butterflies, hummingbirds and humans alike with exotic appeal. Leaves are wing-shaped with deep serrations on long arching stems with a hot pink hue. Blooms from spring until the first frost, Funky Pink is a showstopper in the landscape. Growing up to 12 inches in height by 18 inches wide it’s a mounding, trailing habit that makes it perfect for any space. If you are looking for a beautiful, reliable bedding plant for partially shaded locations, consider funky pink begonia.
Begonia funky pink is heat and stress tolerant. These begonias are perfect for containers, hanging baskets and gardens alike in partially shaded areas. With its mounding, trailing habit it makes a perfect filler for container plantings. Funky pink has double male flowers and single petal female flowers making its bloom unique. Funky pink grows best in USDA hardiness zone 10-11 as an annual or tender perennial in climates with very mild winters. Plant either alone for a stunning mass planting or in combination with other plants.
Funky® Pink Begonia Care
Although Funky Pink is sun-tolerant and will accept sun for much of the day, plants really look best with some shade. An area that receives about 4 hours of direct sun with shade in the afternoon would be ideal. Feel free to try them in somewhat sunnier or shadier locations, but avoid full sun and heavy shade. For growth in the landscape, use generous amounts of organic matter. Work 2 to 4 inches of compost, composted soil conditioner or composted manure and a general-purpose fertilizer into the upper 8 inches of the soil. Plant after the danger of frost has passed and enjoy the continuous flowers all summer long. Water them deeply, as needed during the first few weeks while they are being established. Once established, they are relatively drought-tolerant. Overwatering can lead to problems with rot. The foliage will take on a paler jade color when they need water. Pinching plants back stimulates dense, bushy new growth and encourages more flowers. Remove old flowers to keep the plant looking healthy.
The robust and vigorous growth habit leads to plants that are compact and bushy. Funky pink behaves as annual and growth through winter, usually needing replacement the following year. Can be grown indoors in well-lit areas.
Funky® Pink Begonia Spacing
When grown in mass or used as a bedding feature, plants should be spaced approximately 10 inches apart. Otherwise, spacing should be set at 8-10 inches apart in containers and hanging baskets. Another great feature is that the foliage remains dense right to the ground.
