Growing Zones
The Gabriel Oak English Rose, or Rosa Gabriel Oak, is a medium-sized shrub that will dazzle all season long with beautiful roses. Deep pink flowers have a strong, fruity scent. The outer petals fade to a slightly lighter shade of pink over time, which adds contrast to the already intriguing blooms. The green, ovate leaves come to a point and have a leathery texture. While the flowers are certainly the focal point, the deep purple-hued stems add an unexpected pop of color.
Create a flowering hedge, establish a lovely foundation planting, or display a Gabriel Oak English Rose in a container to enjoy the sights and smells from a porch or patio space. Trim the stems to feature the blooms in an arrangement. The Gabriel Oak English Rose grows in zones 4 through 11.
Gabriel Oak English Rose Care
Select a spot that receives full sun. A minimum of 6 hours is necessary for the Gabriel Oak English Rose to bloom continuously. Give the plant one to two inches of water per week. A rich, well-drained soil will support growth and keep the plant healthy. Fertilize in early spring as new growth appears. Use a fertilizer intended for roses.
Pruning prevents the rose shrub from becoming leggy or overgrown. Shape the plant and remove crossed and weak canes in late winter or early spring. Additional winter care is not generally necessary.
Gabriel Oak English Rose Spacing
The Gabriel Oak English Rose stands 4 feet tall and wide. Space shrubs 4 feet apart when creating a hedge so air can circulate around the foliage.
