Philodendron 'Golden Dragon,' a hybrid of Thai origin, stands out with its deeply lobed, dragon-shaped leaves that develop a golden-green hue under optimal conditions. This climbing Philodendron adds a bold tropical aesthetic to any indoor collection and thrives with the support of a moss pole or trellis. Known for its fast growth and striking foliage, the 'Golden Dragon' is both a statement plant and a conversation starter. While the exact parentage remains a mystery, its resemblance to Philodendron bipennifolium gives it an exotic allure.
Best Locations For Growing Golden Dragon Philodendron
Golden Dragon Philodendron is ideal for living rooms, offices, and bedrooms, particularly when placed near a bright window with indirect light. As this plant is toxic if ingested, it’s essential to keep it out of reach of pets and children. Adding a moss pole allows it to climb gracefully, enhancing its decorative appeal.
Golden Dragon Philodendron Sunlight Requirements
This plant thrives in bright, indirect light but tolerates lower light levels. Place it near an east or west-facing window or several feet away from a south-facing window to avoid scorching. Avoid direct sunlight, which can cause leaf burn, and rotate the plant periodically for even growth.
Golden Dragon Philodendron Care
To support its climbing nature and maximize foliage size, provide a coco or moss pole. Use a well-draining potting mix enriched with organic matter. Repot every 1–2 years or when roots outgrow the container.
Watering Golden Dragon Philodendron
Water when the top 2 inches of soil are dry. Thoroughly saturate the soil until water runs out the drainage holes, then let it drain completely. Avoid letting the plant sit in water to prevent root rot. Moderate to high humidity (60% or more) helps keep its foliage vibrant and healthy.
Feeding Golden Dragon Philodendron
Fertilize every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half the strength recommended by the manufacturer. Reduce feeding in fall and winter when growth slows.
Golden Dragon Philodendron is a dynamic and adaptable plant that rewards care with lush, dragon-shaped leaves and rapid growth. Its unique appearance makes it a must-have for both collectors and tropical plant enthusiasts.
