Golden Treat™ Fruit Snacks™ Apple Tree is a compact, columnar apple that fits anywhere. This columnar apple, Malus 'UEB 3358-3', grows about 8 to 10 feet tall and only 2 to 3 feet wide, with soft pink spring flowers followed by full-sized green-gold apples in September. The fruit is crisp, aromatic, and slightly tart, a good fit for fresh snacking, cheese boards, cobblers, pies, and preserves. It works well for patios, narrow garden beds, edible hedges, and large containers because the fruit forms along short spurs near the main stem instead of on long spreading branches.
Golden Treat™ Fruit Snacks™ Apple Tree Care
Plant Golden Treat™ Fruit Snacks™ Apple Tree in full sun, with 6 to 8 hours of direct light daily, in enriched, well-drained loamy soil with a pH around 5.5 to 7.5. Dig a hole as deep as the root ball and about twice as wide and set the graft union above the soil line. Backfill with improved native soil. Space trees 5 to 6 feet apart for individual plantings, or about 2 to 3 feet apart for a slim fruiting hedge with good airflow.
Prune during dormancy only as needed to remove dead, weak, damaged, or overly upright side shoots, since this columnar form is bred to stay naturally narrow. Avoid hard “heading” cuts that widen the tree. Thin fruit at marble size to one apple every 4 to 6 inches for better apple size and branch health.
Growing Golden Treat™ Fruit Snacks™ Apple Tree
Golden Treat™ Fruit Snacks™ Apple Tree can begin fruiting 1 to 2 years after planting, with apples typically ripening in September. It is not self-pollinating, so plant another compatible apple nearby, such as Tasty Red™, Blushing Delight™, Tangy Green™, or another apple that blooms at the same time. Bees handle the pollen transfer as long as the apple varieties are within about 50 to 100 feet of each other.
Harvest when the apples color to green-gold, feel firm, and release with a gentle lift and twist. Eat fresh or store sound fruit in a cool place for later baking.
Growing Golden Treat™ Fruit Snacks™ Apple Tree in Containers
Choose a sturdy container at least 18 to 24 inches wide with drainage holes, and use a high-quality potting mix blended for outdoor trees or fruiting plants. Place the pot in full sun, and keep a compatible apple variety close enough for pollinators to visit both trees during bloom. Repot every 2 to 3 years in early spring, or refresh the top layer of mix and lightly root-prune. Container-grown apples need steady watering and some winter root protection in colder climates.
Watering Golden Treat™ Fruit Snacks™ Apple Tree
Water deeply once or twice weekly during the first growing season, keeping the soil evenly moist but not saturated. Once established, water during dry spells, especially while fruit is sizing, and watch for leaf curl or early fruit drop as signs the tree is drying too much between soakings.
Feeding Golden Treat™ Fruit Snacks™ Apple Tree
Feed in early spring with an apple-specific fertilizer or balanced slow-release fertilizer before new growth begins. Continue light feeding as directed through the growing season if needed, but avoid heavy nitrogen late in summer so the tree can focus on fruit and winter readiness.
