Green Light Cucumber has everything you want in a mini hybrid variety. It is quick to mature at 37 days from harvest. The smooth, spineless skin is thin and extra crunchy, making it great for pickling and eating fresh. Green Light is self-pollinating and ideal for greenhouse growing; each vine can produce up to 40 4-inch fruits. Green Light was an All-American Selection winner in 2020 for its vigorous growth and taste.
Green Light Cucumber Care
Plant cucumbers outside after all danger of frost has passed in the spring and after the soil temperature is above 60 degrees F. Space Green Light plants 12 inches apart on center, or plant in a pot with at least a 10-inch diameter. The soil needs to be well draining and nutrient rich. Amend garden beds with 1-2 inches of organic compost or composted steer manure at planting time. Green Light can reach 40 inches in height and requires support from trellising or canes before fruit begins to set. Ensure the planting site has full sun or at least 6 hours of direct sunlight to encourage heavy flowering and fruit.
Growing Green Light Cucumbers
These cucumbers grow well in a greenhouse and will produce fruit long into the fall when grown under cover. Green Light Cucumbers begin to set fruit at 37 days from transplanting and 45 days from direct seeding. The F1 hybrid plants grow well in containers without external pollination.
Plant Green Light Cucumber in a container at least 10 inches in diameter. Use a soil-based potting mix that is well draining and has organic compost or worm castings mixed in. Provide a teepee of bamboo canes or a trellis for plants to climb.
Watering Green Light Cucumber
Cucumbers require regular watering to form large, juicy fruits. Provide 1 inch of water a week for garden-grown plants. Container-grown cucumbers will need watering when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry.
Feeding Green Light Cucumber
Mix a slow-release vegetable fertilizer into the soil at planting time to release nutrients during the growing season. Cucumbers growing in containers should be fed a diluted liquid fish emulsion or seaweed extract every two weeks after the first blooms appear.
