Hungry for plump red tomatoes perfect when eaten straight off the vine, canned, or made into delicious pasta sauces? Starving for nutritious food that improves your health? If so, you can satisfy both of these cravings by planting Health Kick Tomato Plant. This high-yield cultivar, otherwise known as Solanum lycopersicum 'Health Kick', Health Kick Tomato, Paste Tomato, and Plum Tomato, produces lustrous, 4-ounce, scarlet plum tomatoes that are ready to be picked in 72 days. Containing 50% more lycopene than other varieties, Health Kick Tomato Plant’s fruit packs a powerful antioxidant punch every time you take a bite of its tangy, sweet, juicy flesh. Harvest this saladette tomato during the summer when the fruit appears to be partially to fully red. Bred by Goodness Grows Edibles, this medium-sized, determinate, bushy plant produces yellow blooms prior to fruiting and requires no pruning other than trimming the first set of leaves at the plant’s base to prevent disease.
Health Kick Tomato Plant Care
Health Kick Tomato Plant thrives when exposed to full sun. Plant this hybrid during the spring in loamy, acidic soil that drains well. If necessary, amend the soil with peat moss to establish a soil pH of 6.2 to 6.8. Space each plant 24 inches apart from the next one. Stake the main stem to encourage growth and protect it from damage caused by wind and rain.
Growing Health Kick Tomato Plant
Growing to a maximum height and spread of 24 to 30 inches, Healthy Kick Tomato Plant will provide you with loads of ripe fruit in about 72 days. Since this cultivar thrives in full sun, provide it with at least 6 hours per day. If grown inside, however, ensure that this hybrid gets at least 8 hours of bright direct light and that the surrounding humidity is high.
Having many uses, Health Kick Tomato Plant is perfect grown solo as a thriller in a container or en masse in a garden or raised bed. For container growing, choose an 18-inch pot as this cultivar’s new starter home. When repotting it later, pick a new container that is twice the size of the old pot.
Watering Health Kick Tomato Plant
Tomato plants love moisture; Health Kick Tomato Plant is no different. Ensure that this plum tomato plant gets 1 to 2 inches of water per week depending on the humidity and rainfall.
Feeding Health Kick Tomato Plant
Fertilize Health Kick Tomato Plant at the time of planting. Then, depending on the nutrient content of the soil, apply a balanced fertilizer or a 5-10-10 fertilizer biweekly throughout the season.
