Heart To Heart® Bold N Beautiful Caladium (Caladium hortulanum ‘Bold N Beautiful’) wakes up the garden with lance-shaped leaves that emerge coral-pink iced in olive green, then mature to near-white panels traced by salmon veins. New foliage appears all season, so spring’s warm colors mingle with summer’s creamy tones, and a mounded clump reaches about 18 inches tall and a foot wide. Heat never dulls the pattern, deer ignore it, and the tropical texture adds instant luxury from late spring through early fall.

Native to Amazonian forest clearings, this caladium handles humidity, short dry spells, and bright shade to morning sun. The upright habit makes a natural filler in mixed patio pots, a glowing swath along shady borders, or a lively accent between hostas. Heart-shaped leaves last well in cut-foliage arrangements, and the plant’s long leaf retention means a fuller display than many older varieties. Hummingbirds may investigate the foliage mass, but pests and diseases rarely trouble it.

Heart To Heart® Bold N Beautiful Caladium Care

Plant tubers once nights stay above 65 °F, burying them two inches deep in rich, well-drained soil amended with compost; position the bumpy crown upward for quick sprouting. Keep the medium evenly moist—wilting causes yellow tips—and feed every other week with a quarter-strength balanced fertilizer to avoid scorching the light leaf areas. Site containers where they receive dappled light or morning sun and afternoon shade, though northern gardens can push the plant into nearly full sun if soil never dries out. Pruning is simple: snap off any wind-torn leaves at the base, and new growth fills gaps fast.

Gardeners in zones 10–11 enjoy this caladium as a tender perennial; everywhere else, lift tubers before frost, air-dry a week, then store at 60 °F in peat until spring. Shift potted plants  indoors to a bright east window, maintain warmth, and expect three to four months of showy foliage before a short dormancy; withhold water when leaves fade and resume once buds break.

Heart To Heart® Bold N Beautiful Caladium Spacing

Allow 10-14 inches between tubers in a shaded bed so mature leaves touch without trapping excess humidity. One tuber fills an 8-inch pot; three create a lush mound in a 14-inch patio planter or window box. When combining with other annuals, reserve at least a square foot of surface area per tuber so companions do not crowd this showstopper.
