Got a spot in your shade garden for a new color twist for Caladiums? Try the Heart to Heart Lemon Blush Caladium either in your part to full shade garden/water garden or as a houseplant all year round. Unlike some annuals which can grow leggy indoors, caladiums make great houseplants with just a little TLC on your part. Caladiums are upright foliage plants that look great from spring to summer and into fall until night time temperatures fall below 50 degrees.

With a deep-red or fuchsia heart and a lemon-tinted chartreuse fringe, these oblong heart-shaped foliage plants will be at home in your outdoor landscape or in your home. Makes a nice understory planting to arrowleaf and other tall background plants. As a houseplant, Heart to Heart Lemon Blush Caladiums will give you the color you crave when most others plants have stopped blooming. Hardy in Zones 10a, 10b, 11a and 11b, these plants make great annuals in Zones 3-8 and may overwinter in Zone 9 if the ground is kept dry.

Heart to Heart Lemon Blush Caladium Care

Plant tubers with pointed end up, about 2 inches below surface if purchasing as tubers, and plant containerized plants about ½ inch deeper than they were in pot if planting outdoors or repotting to allow roots room to grow. Fertilize lightly, only about a quarter strength houseplant foliage fertilizer each week up to every other week as needed. Keep soil evenly moist not wet. Strong southern exposure with dry conditions are not conducive to leaf health.

Pruning may be required if the plant is allowed to dry out and leaves get dry, clip close to soil level for optimal appearance. Deadheading is not usually required, though, as this plant maintains a tidy appearance.

Heart to Heart Lemon Blush Caladium Spacing

Topping out at up to 20 inches tall and 14 inches wide, space plants 10 to 14 inches apart. Companion plants include coleus, and some shade loving perennials like love lies bleeding and lobelia. Leaves may be toxic if ingested so keep away from children or pets.
