The variegated foliage of the Heart to Heart® Splash of Wine Caladium is extraordinary and makes a showy statement in a landscape. This Caladium hortulanum has white heart-shaped leaves with cranberry red and pink splotches reminiscent of abstract art. The midrib, veining, and margins are bold green. This annual is grown for its ornamental foliage, and the flowers are insignificant.
Feature this annual in a border or foundation planting. The variegated foliage looks stunning in a mass planting, but the leaves also provide contrast and color in a mixed planting. Add to a mixed container as a leafy thriller. The Heart to Heart® Splash of Wine Caladium is easy to maintain and heat tolerant for added convenience. Deer tend to leave it alone, making it a good pick for areas with large deer populations.
Heart to Heart® Splash of Wine Caladium Care
Plant the Heart to Heart® Splash of Wine Caladium in partial to full shade. The stunning foliage looks its best in low light and only needs about 4 hours of sunlight daily. Plant it in rich, moist, and well-drained soil. Water when the soil is dry. Landscape plants may need water weekly, while container-grown plants need water more often. Apply a balanced fertilizer every few weeks during the spring and summer.
Remove dead or damaged growth throughout the growing season. Trim growth to ground level after the first frost.
Heart to Heart® Splash of Wine Caladium Spacing
The Heart to Heart® Splash of Wine Caladium reaches 15 to 20 inches tall and 10 to 14 inches wide. Space plants 10 to 14 inches apart when creating a mass planting.
