Caladium ‘Tickle Me Pink’ will definitely tickle your fancy with its pure clean pink color surrounded by the speckled white area of the main leaves and green margin. This is a plant that can do double duty as a garden plant that will brighten every area of the garden or as a houseplant for those winter doldrums! Plus it can grow almost anywhere in the North America too! This is a versatile plant that can be used in a container, as a houseplant, in the garden as a focal point or as a mass planting.
Using ‘Tickle Me Pink’ in a container can fulfill a couple of wishes for your garden. It can be used as the bright spot in a shade container or as the thriller in a sun loving container. Since it is grown for its foliage, it doesn’t compete with other flowers but rather compliments them instead. Imagine using pink Pentas or white impatiens in the container with ‘Tickle Me Pink’. It would be a stunning combination.
Heart to Heart® Tickle Me Pink Caladium Care
‘Tickle Me Pink’ caladium is deer resistant (nothing is ever deer proof), hardy from Zone 10a-11b and has very few insect and disease problems. It requires even moisture so don’t let it dry out. This caladium tolerates part shade to full sun and loves hot weather. Fertilizing it is easy too. Just ¼ strength of fertilizer every other week is fine. More than that and you chance burning the edges of the leaves. If you are growing it in the north, it is best to wait until soil temperatures are at least 65 degrees or warmer or grow it in a pot.
When growing it indoors as a houseplant, keep a tray of pebbles filled with water to provide extra humidity especially during the winter months. If growing in the southern regions, they may even be hardy for you in the zones indicated. Just remember to keep them watered for the best display. Caladiums can be an irritant so if you have pets that like to sample your plants, you can spray them with a repellent following the label directions or place them where your pets can’t get to them.
Heart to Heart® Tickle Me Pink Caladium Spacing
‘Tickle Me Pink’ is a medium sized plant so use it accordingly. It will grow to about 15-20 inches tall either in the ground or in a container. If using it as a mass planting leave about 10 inches in between each plant to allow it to fill out completely.
