If you seek a Hoya that blooms year-round, your search ends here. Hoya heuschkeliana, though modest in leaf size, captivates with its strikingly scented flower clusters. These blossoms begin as a delicate creamy white and gradually transform into a rosy red over approximately a week. The unique fragrance is often likened to buttered popcorn, enchanting all who encounter it. Native to Southeast Asia and Australia, this Hoya variety can rapidly adorn a hanging basket or tabletop container with its gracefully trailing stems, achieving an impressive spread of up to 24 inches.

Best Locations for Growing Heuschkeliana Hoya

Hanging baskets are the typical way to display Hoyas. They can be left to spread and drape as desired when hung in a window or placed on a bookshelf. Regular pruning can help maintain a more compact form, although it is important to note that excessive pruning may diminish or inhibit blooming. This charming plant is safe for children’s rooms, and it poses no risk to pets, even if a curious puppy or kitten decides to investigate.

Heuschkeliana Hoya Sunlight Requirements

Indirect bright light will provide Hoya with the energy needed for quick growth and profuse blooming. Low to medium light levels are acceptable but will result in slower growth and less vibrant foliage. An east or west-facing window is ideal, while south-facing rooms can also work as long as the plant is placed at least 3 feet away from the window.

Heuschkeliana Hoya Care

Add extra perlite or pumice to an all-purpose indoor potting mix to enhance drainage and improve air circulation around the root zone. Ensure that the container has plenty of drainage holes at the bottom. Using a decorative cache pot is fine, provided it allows for adequate drainage after watering. Hoya plants resent sitting in water for extended periods.

Watering Heuschkeliana Hoya

Hoya plants retain moisture in their leaves and can tolerate drying out between waterings. Water once a week when the potting mix is about 50% dry to avoid overwatering. High humidity is essential for encouraging successful blooming. Place containers on pebble trays to enhance humidity, and lightly mist hanging baskets daily with a fine sprayer bottle filled with distilled water.

Feeding Heuschkeliana Hoya

African violet or orchid fertilizer is an excellent choice for feeding any blooming houseplant. The high phosphorus content encourages blooms and supports root formation. Fertilize only during the spring and summer months when the plants are growing the fastest. Monthly applications of half-strength fertilizer from April to August are sufficient.

Guarantee and Warranty

Plant Shipping

Below are some factors we consider when determining when to ship the plants depending on the timing of the order.

Winter to Early Spring

We ship only when it's warm enough to plant in your growing zone.
Sometimes plants aren't completely ready to sell and ship in early spring. We will wait until the plants are ready before shipping so you don't get a subpar product.
For Southern plants we will be able to ship much earlier than plants coming from our northern nursery.

Summer

If there is extreme heat we may delay shipping for a week or several weeks.
We review what areas the plants are traveling through as well as your location.

Fall into Winter

We’ll ship plants out all the way up to the end of the fall planting season!

Winter

Get your order in early to reserve your plants for Spring planting!

Once your plant is shipped you’ll receive an automated email with tracking information.
